Curtis/Live
Curtis Mayfield
Information
One of Curtis Mayfield’s best albums features him in a small club, performing extended versions of his top songs with a tight band. The energy is reminiscent of Donny Hathaway Live, but with a double-length set and Mayfield on vocals and guitar, accompanied by additional instruments including percussion by Henry Gibson.
Curtis was a prominent American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer, renowned for his profound influence on soul and socially conscious African-American music. Recognized as the “Gentle Genius,” he rose to prominence as a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted group the Impressions during the civil rights movement of the late 1950s and 1960s, before embarking on a successful solo career.
