Vinyl collecting: a true passion
I always loved music from 60 and 70s and vintage stuff, it’s the whole picture when you listen to vinyl, collecting, digging, searching, its therapeutic for me. Collecting vinyl is more than just a hobby; it’s a true passion for me.
The beginning
Thanks to my mother, I started listening to Soul music. When I was about ten or eleven years old my mother gave me a record player and some of her records, likes Otis, Aretha, Rolling Stones but mainly Tina Turner. That´s where my fascination for Tina and other black woman in music came from. The strength and passion behind these women touches me. Women like Etta James, Big Mama Torthen, Koko Taylor, Mavis Staples, Sister Rosetta Tharp, Aretha Franklin can really touch me with their voice and music.
Music room
In 2018 I slowly started collecting vinyl, but this quickly got out of hand and my collection started to take over our living room. Together with my partner we changed our living room into a music room in 2022. Here I sit for hours on end listening to music. My own happy place that I am very proud of.
In 2020 I started my Instagram page, at the time I was much less active than now. I started it because I wanted to get in touch with other vinyl collectors. At that time I did not expect that my page would become an important thing in my life, in 2020 I was just recovering from a tough time and music has helped me a lot with that, music and especially vinyl is not only my hobby but also has become my passion.
I like to share my collection on Instagram and I do like to see other people’s collections and discover new music through that. I chat a lot via Instagram and I even gained some friends, that I later met in real life. All the effort I put in Instagram is worth it. I appreciate the nice reactions and all the likes a lot.
I hope that my Instagram page can inspire people to take up this hobby and music and that it will be just as healing for them as it is for me.
Plants & decor
I am also a plant lover and therefore have quite a plant collection. In my spare time I like to go to a record store/fair or to a garden center. I also enjoy visiting flea markets or thrift stores and looking for decorations for the music room.
Listening buddy
My best listening buddy is Ivy my dog, a little yorkie, he is a big fan of Bob Marley and also loves to listen to some good jazz funk albums like Herbie Hancock. We always hang out in the room together. He also goes with me when I’m going out for digging.
