Release Yourself
Graham Central Station
Information
Honestly, Graham Central Station has laid down some seriously funky tracks in their prime. There’s a certain essence to this particular album that distinguishes it from their other works. It exudes a genuine ‘Southern Fried Soul’ vibe. The opening track, “G.S.C.,” featuring Larry on all instruments, is pure, soulful funk that could move Stevie Wonder to tears. “Release Yourself” delivers relentless, hard-hitting funk, as tight as a Louisiana virgin! And “I Believe In You” gets down and dirty, with the bass slapping in all the right places.
Graham Central Station was an American funk band named after founder Larry Graham (formerly of Sly and the Family Stone). The name is a pun on New York City’s Grand Central Terminal, often colloquially called Grand Central Station.
