Flow State

Australian Tash Sultana could not have come up with a better title than Flow State for this debut album. The multi-instrumentalist allows all kinds of layers of music to flow together on this slightly psychedelic record. The guitar dominates, both acoustically and electrically. Trumpet or piano sounds are sometimes woven through this. There is even a hint of R&B here and there within the reverberating, abrasive and sharp guitar solos. Sultana has been playing guitar since they were three and has mastered twenty instruments. On some songs you can hear four or five layers of guitar.

Flow State is her debut and effortlessly fulfills all the promises that the first tracks that appeared online suggested. It’s unbelievable that she actually played and sang everything herself. Almost unbelievable when you hear the songs on the album. Can she play all those instruments so well? So yes. And she also has a knack for writing smart, sometimes even really good songs. So multi-talented.
