Inherit The Wind

Inherit The Wind is essentially a Crusaders production, as Wilton Felder co-produced the album with Stix Hooper and Joe Sample. Bobby Womack delivers the title track, a Rare Groove gem, and a rendition of Donny Hathaway’s “Someday We’ll All Be Free”. Notable musicians include Roland Bautista, Abraham Laboriel, Leon “Ndugu” Chancler, and Paulinho da Costa, with standout performances by Merry Clayton and Jim Gilstrap in the choir. With the exception of “Insight,” a lively funk piece, the album exudes a groovy and mellow jazz-funk vibe.

Wilton Lewis Felder (August 31, 1940 – September 27, 2015) was an American saxophonist and bassist, renowned as a founding member of The Jazz Crusaders, later known as The Crusaders.

Felder, born in Houston, Texas, in 1940, pursued music studies at Texas Southern University. Alongside Wayne Henderson, Joe Sample, and Stix Hooper, he established the group during their high school years in Houston. The Jazz Crusaders transitioned from traditional jazz to pioneering jazz-rock fusion with a strong soul music influence. Felder remained with the original ensemble for over three decades and continued collaborating in subsequent iterations, often featuring other founding members.
